  1. Chew some gum it always helps me
  2. I haven't had this problem since I started wearing contacts... But some people say that freezing it for 20-30 minutes or so will help a little... But that will only last just a few minutes before it thaws and the juices start flowing....
  3. Put two wooden matchsticks in your mouth between your teeth. The sulfur tips of the matches will absorb some of the strong odor. Also, if you rub a spoon between your thumb and fingers under running water, it will remove the onion smell from your fingers.
  4. I always peel an onion under running water then chop fast!
  5. cold water
  6. I don't know what to do to prevent it, but make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after you are done handling the onion and then rinse your eyes with cool water. I use Visine to help with the irritation.
  7. put some eye drops in your eyes
  8. You can refrigerate the onion before you start in, or put it in the freezer for 15 minutes or so.
  9. get a fan, put it on low.... let it stands next to you while you chop onion.
  10. Chop more of them. You'll build a resistance to the reaction to the point where your eyes won't burn anymore.
