What REALLY works to stop you from crying when you chop an onion? here's what has not worked: Running it under cold water first keeing the root on wearing any part of the oinion on my head Using a food processor (in fact, this makes it worse!) Short of putting on my snorkel or swim goggles, has anyone had any real luck with any REAL solutions? I forgot to mention, what doesn't work is "getting used to it" I'm going to be 41 soon, and have been cooking for at least the last 30+ years (I'm Italian, you grow up in the kitchen)

Extreme onion sensitivity, need help!? I've had a ridiculus sensitivity to onions that keeps getting worse. If I'm in a room where they are being cut my eyes not only burn and water I actually lose all vision for at least 5 minutes (meanwhile I'm irrigating my eyes in the sink). Today I cut onions but wore swim goggles over my eyes, a respirator, and nitrile gloves. I'm not blind right now but I definitely can't stop crying. I cleaned all the equipment right after use and the scraps are in a lidded garbage. Does anyone have any advice to how I can actually cook with onions without suffering?

I am not convinced that the answer is complete and accurate.? You can prevent your eyes from tearing if you hold your breath (a tip from a friend) while cutting onion even when your eyes are wide open. However you can try cutting an onion wearing super tight swimming goggle and your eyes will still tear if you breath in while cutting onion. Can you explain this with the above theory?
How can I stop my eyes from streaming with tears when chopping onions? I've tried wearing wrap-around sunnies and big chunky safety goggles, but neither seem to work all that well! Does anyone have any ideas?
What is the best way to keep your eyes from watering while cutting onions? Or should i just bare with it? Despite the fact that I absolutely can't stand the stinging. Yes, goggles work [it gets foggy after a while], but glasses don't. lmao. Also, can you get used to it after time [and your eyes won't water]? Thanks. @Angelique Yeah I've heard of that one as well, Iol. I'll try all of those methods out :)

Is Raw Onions Good For Your Health? Does raw onions really help to fight all sorts of diseases ? Because it's a real pain and hassle to eat and I would not want to make myself suffer for nothing. Heck, I even wear swimming goggles in order to cut my onions without crying. Eating them is like chewing in sulfuric acid. It's better be worth the trouble or else I'm going back to junk food.
what would be a good hypothesis (if....then) for this lab? Diffusion Lab Purpose Students will observe the movement of water and other substances across a semi-permeable membrane. At the conclusion of the lab, students will be able to describe why some substances passed across the membrane and other did not. Students will be able to apply knowledge gained from the lab to real life experiences. Safety Iodine can stain your skin and is and eye irritant. When using iodine, all students will wear safety goggles. Materials •Beaker •onion skin •Dialysis tubing •microscope •String •glass slide •forceps •Starch solution •cover slip •Iodine •bottle of salt water •Water dropper bottle •teasing needle Procedures: Part A Make a “cell” 1.Take a section of dialysis tubing that has been soaking in water. Pull the ends apart, gently, forming a tube. 2.Seal one end of the tube by folding the end over and tying it closed with a piece of string or dental floss. The goal is to make that end COMPLETLEY leak proof. 3.Pour starch solution into the tube until it is about half-full. 4.Tie the top of the tube in the same way you tied off the bottom. The tube should not leak from either end. Check for leaks by gently turning the tube to one end and back a gain, a few times. 5.Rinse off the “cell” you’ve made by holding it under running water. 6.Place the “cell” in a beaker and add water until the “cell” is covered. 7.Put safety goggles over your eyes. Add iodine to the water in the beaker surrounding the “cell”. Add enough to make the water an amber color. 8.On your data sheet, label the initial state diagram as directed. 9.Set the beaker aside while moving on to part 2 of this lab Procedures: Part B Observing an onion cell 1.Your teacher will provide a small section of onion skin for you to use. 2.Position the onion skin in the center of a slide, and place a drop of water on it. Be careful not to let the onion skin fold over on itself. Use forceps and a teasing needle to get the onion skin flat. 3.Add a cover slip and observe the cells using the low power of a microscope. Search for the cells with red coloration. 4.On your data sheet, draw and color a typical red onion cell mounted in water 5.Remove the slide from the stage. Take the cover slip off and bathe the onion cell in salt water. Place the cover slip back on the slide. Use a paper towel to blot the extra water. 6.Place the slide back on the microscope and wait a few minutes. 7.While you are waiting, observe your “cell” sitting in the beaker. On your data sheet, label the final state diagram as directed. 8.After completing the diagram, observe the onion cells in salt water. 9.Draw and color an onion cell in salt water.
Chopping onions makes me feel like I injected soap directly into my eyeballs? How can I chop onions without my eyes burning so intensely and tearing? I've tried wearing goggles which didn't work, though maybe they weren't tight enough. I've tried lighting a candle next to the onions. I can't tell if that worked at all...maybe a little. My eyes still burnt but I was finely chopping three large onions (very hard when your eyes are so sensitive. I had to take brakes in another room). I don't know what else to do, I'll try any silly idea if that's all you've got.
